The Dream

The Dream

As I lay in deep sleep I awoke, suddenly and vividly. I heard growls, stomps, and killing intent. It felt like a feeding frenzy was about to take place, and I laid in the center of it. I stared to left, were I had my knife and my flashlight, as I thought about what I might have to do. As I rationalized what I was going to have to do to survive, I awoke again. It was dark, cold and could hear a breeze. While staring at the top of my tent I heard a noise outside. I called out “tony”….”tony”….”tony”, no response was heard. Thinking to myself that he might be dead, because he is an easy target, he is small, lean, and tasty. I suspected the worst. My only instinct was to go back to sleep once again. So I did, for what it felt like days. As the morning came, I rose up and went outside. Everything was right with the world. The sun was shining, the river running, and the air clean and fresh. I took a deep breath and for the first time in a long time, I felt like me.  With my new found self I started a camp fire, heated up some water, made some coffee and breakfast, sat down and enjoyed life. While enjoying my coffee and food, my dog came up to me, with what I assume was a smile, and I saw true love. Her eyes were lit up. Her tongue sticking out, her tail wagging, and her stare looking right through me. At home we usually have breakfast together so I knew she wanted food as well. I made her some food, and we sat there in the middle of nature having breakfast together………………………..
